Assigning a Hyperlink to an Image or Text

The fundamental strategy for linking a web page to text or or image is this:

  1. Select the item on your page (text or image) that will link to another page.
  2. Click the Link button in the Composer Toolbar
  3. In the pop-up Link dialog box, input the link:
    • Type in the absolute link (to a page out on the Web), or
    • Choose one of your other web pages if it's a relative link.
  4. Click the OK button.

Here are the specifics on how to do this.

Select the Text or Image you wish to attach a link to:

  • If it's text, select all of the word by double-clicking inside the word, or by dragging the mouse over the entire piece of text...

  • If it's an image, simply click once on the image. It will be outlined, and squares will appear at it's corners and along it's sides.

 

 

 

Click on the Link button in the Composition toolbar (it says 'Link' and has an image of a chain link).

The link dialog box appears, requesting a path name to the web page this text or image should link to:

If you're linking to one of your other pages, click the Choose File... button and select the file containing the web page to link to (This will be a relative link).

 

This link is relative to the page you're linking from.

If you're linking to an existing page out on the internet, this will be an absolute link. The best way to get the URL for this kind of page (To avoid misspellings) is to:

  1. Go to a browser window.
  2. Go to the desired web page by either typing in the URL into the Address text field or by locating it via a search engine.
  3. Once you've reach the desired page, select the URL in the address text field (Including the http:// prefix).
  4. Copy the URL via Edit->Copy.
  5. Go back to the Link dialog box.
  6. Paste the URL into the 'Web Page Location' text field via Edit->Paste.
  7. Click the OK button.

If you've linked text, you'll notice that the text changes colors, and most likely is underlined. This is the default style for linked text.

You can change these settings using the Page Colors and Background... option of the Format pull-down menu.
