Dear Colleagues:

We are in the final stages of our preparation for the ABET
visit. The custodial staff from the Physical Plant department have agreed
to make an all-out effort to clean the building prior to the visit. The chairs
have been given a list of rooms that will be cleaned. Many of you have
been asked to make some accommodations for the cleaning folks. Hopefully,
the disruptions have been minimal. There will be some last-minute
painting as well as removal of obsolete equipment and furniture. Overall,
the facilities are looking good!

Dr. German has put together a list of questions that you
might expect from the program evaluators during the visit. These
questions were discussed at the informational faculty meeting. A copy of the
questions is attached.

Departments, especially the technicians, have been doing a
great job in getting teaching laboratories ready for the visit. One of
the overarching concerns is the need for additional safety glasses. Ed
Beighley and Michael Lester have just obtained 100 pairs of safety
glasses. If you need safety glasses for your laboratory, please see
Ed. He has them stored in the Engineering Laboratory Building.

The air-conditioning project is also winding down. All
of the new equipment is in place and the final connections are being
made. The new air system should be up and running in two to three weeks.

At the informational faculty meeting last week, I announced
a request for proposals for travel abroad opportunities for our undergraduate
students. Copies of the request where handed out as well is extra copies
were given to chairs. I have also attached an electronic copy of the
RFP. Providing travel abroad experiences for undergraduate students is a
priority for the University and for the Provost. I hope these funds will
result in a significant increase in engineering students participating in
travel abroad.

I thank each of you for the efforts made in preparing for
the upcoming ABET visit. We have a great story to tell. Please make
certain that you look over the self-study reports one more time before next Monday.
