science and engineering that are directly related to acoustics. These
include: Acoustical Oceanography; Architectural Acoustics; Animal
Bioacoustics; Biomedical Ultrasound and Bioresponse to Vibration;
Engineering Acoustics; Musical Acoustics; Noise; Physical Acoustics;
Psychological Acoustics; Physiological Acoustics; Signal Processing in
Acoustics; Speech Communication; Structural Acoustics and Vibration;
and Underwater Acoustics.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the fellowship, the applicant must have
permanent residence or citizenship in the United States at the time of
application. He/she must also be a member of a minority group
(Hispanic, African American or Native American) that is
underrepresented in the sciences. Evidence of acceptance into, or good
academic standing in, a graduate degree program is also
required.

FUNDING

The award consists of a $20,000 stipend for one academic
year, to be dispensed over a twelve-month period through the host
institution. The award will be renewed for a second year of graduate
study, upon receipt of a report indicating that the recipient is
making normal progress toward the degree and will remain a full-time
student in good academic standing at this university. The sponsor
strongly encourages the host educational institution to waive all
tuition costs and assessed fees, in recognition of the stipend award.
In addition, the award will cover travel for the student recipient, up
to a total of $1,000, to attend a national meeting of the Acoustical
Society of America during the fellowship year. (ebd)
