Title: Structural Engineering Traveling Fellowship

SYNOPSIS: This fellowship aims to foster an appreciation of the
aesthetic potential inherent in the structural design of both
buildings and bridges along with other major works of architecture and
engineering. In this way, the Fellowship will encourage an awareness
of the importance of the visual impact of structures among engineering
students and their schools.

OBJECTIVES: By enabling the Fellow to experience buildings,
bridges and other structures first hand, the Foundation’s hope is that
the Fellowship will help the student gain a critical appreciation of
the aesthetics of structure, thus influencing the teaching and
practice of structural engineering in the future..
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be graduating with a bachelor's degree, master's
degree, or Ph.D. in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a
specialization in Structural Engineering from a U.S. school. U.S.
citizenship is not required. For the 2011 awards, the applicant's
degree must be received between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011.
Candidates must intend to enter the professional practice of
structural engineering in the field of buildings or bridges.
FUNDING
One fellowship of $10,000 will be awarded. (flb)
