OBJECTIVES: <br>

&nbsp;The sponsor provides three Fellowship Programs:<br><br>

&nbsp;MS Engineering Fellowship Program: The objective of this program

is<br>

to promote the benefits of a masters degree within industry.&nbsp;

Fellows<br>

are provided practical engineering summer work experiences through

an<br>

employer sponsor and a portable academic year fellowship of tuition,<br>

fees, and a stipend which may be used at any participating

University<br>

where the Fellow is admitted. <br><br>

&nbsp;Ph.D. Engineering Fellowship Program:&nbsp; The objective of

this<br>

program is to offer doctoral fellowships to underrepresented

minority<br>

students who have either completed or are currently enrolled in a<br>

master's in engineering program. Fellowships may be used at any<br>

participating University where the Fellow is admitted. <br><br>

&nbsp;Ph.D. Science Fellowship Program: The goal of this program is

to<br>

increase the number of minority students who pursue doctoral degrees<br>

in the natural science disciplines: chemistry, physics, earth<br>

sciences, mathematics, biological sciences, and computer science.<br>

Fellowships offered through this program are portable and may be

used<br>

at any participating University where the Fellow is admitted. <br><br>

ELIGIBILITY<br>

&nbsp;Candidates are selected from the following under-represented<br>

minority groups: American Indian/Native, African American/Black, or<br>

Hispanic American/Latino.&nbsp; The applicant must be a U.S. citizen at

the<br>

time of application.&nbsp; MS Engineering Program Applicants must be

a<br>

junior, senior, or graduate of an accredited engineering or computer<br>

science program at the time of application, and must have a minimum<br>

cumulative grade point average of 2.8/4.0. Ph.D. Program Applicants<br>

must be a senior, masters student, or graduate of an accredited<br>

engineering or applied science program at the time of application;

and<br>

must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0/4.0.&nbsp; MS Fellows

are<br>

required to intern for a GEM Employer Member the summer immediately<br>

following selection up until the M.S. requirements are completed.<br>

Ph.D. fellows are required to intern once for a GEM Employer Member<br>

the summer immediately following selection. Fellowships offered<br>

through this program are portable and may be used at any

participating<br>

GEM Member University where the GEM Fellow is admitted.&nbsp; A listing

of<br>

GEM member universities is available from the sponsor's web site.

<br><br>

FUNDING<br>

&nbsp;MS Engineering Fellows receive: a $10,000 stipend over 3

semesters<br>

/ four quarters; a minimum of two paid summer internships with a GEM<br>

Employer Member; and full tuition and fees at a GEM Member<br>

University. <br><br>

&nbsp; For Ph.D. Engineering Fellows, the sponsor pays the stipend and

a<br>

cost of instruction grant to the institution where the fellow is<br>

enrolled during the first academic year of doctoral study.

Thereafter,<br>

the total fellowship cost is borne by the participating University.<br>

Fellows are provided a practical summer work experience through the<br>

Employer Member for at least one summer. <br><br>

&nbsp; Ph.D. Science Fellows receive: a $14,000 stipend in the first

year<br>

of the PhD program; Member University support for the second through<br>

fifth years, equivalent to other funded doctorate students in the<br>

department; a minimum of one paid summer internship with a GEM<br>

Employer Member; and full tuition and fees at a GEM Member

University.<br>
