FINDING A THESIS
ADVISOR - your first step on the road to success in your MS degree
MS
Thesis students need to find a thesis advisor that is willing to work with them
by the end of their first semester at SDSU.
Here the faculty as international experts in their respective fields of
research can formulate a thesis project usually of high scientific and
technological value. Sometimes even two faculty members will have an idea that
they would be willing to collaborate on. Here the student can gain considerably
by joining the research group of one of these faculty members, or even two
faculty members collaborating
on one project that the student can work on.
To help you in the process of finding a thesis advisor,
you can visit the faculty websites found at http://attila.sdsu.edu/mechanical/
to learn more about their activities. The best way after that is to approach
faculty individually by making an appointment with them. Once you have found a
thesis advisor and he/she has agreed to advise you, you need to complete a thesis advisor form
and return the form to the Department of Mechanical Engineering main office.
All this must
be done by the end of your first semester.
STUDENTS WANTING TO PURSUE A NON-THESIS
OPTION (PLAN B) INSTEAD OF A THESIS (PLAN A) ALSO NEED TO ARRANGE WITH AN ME FACULTY MEMBER DURING THEIR FIRST SEMESTER AT SDSU. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE
STUDENT TO FIND A FACULTY MEMBER WHO WILL BE WILLING TO ADVISE THEM FOR THE ME
797 COURSE. THE STUDENT SHOULD ALSO COMPLETE THE PROJECT ADVISOR FORM BY THE
END OF THE STUDENT’S FIRST SEMESTER AT SDSU.
